Egeziharya Yilma New Tewahedo Mezmur CD
About two weeks ago, Egeziharya Yilma, 17, released the first Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo gospel album. The song is fully in English. She did this by translating her father’s songs from Amharic using the same melody. Personally speaking, as a 18 year old raised in America myself, I believe that this album is an innovative step in the right direction for the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church. With these songs, a whole new generation all over the world is able to understand and replicate the praise that is already present in them. It builds a bridge of understanding between the older Amharic speaking generation and the younger, English speaking children. In my own family, I have seen both of my younger brothers singing along with Egeziharya’s songs in both English and Amharic, finally making the connection between the two that they didn’t have beforehand. I myself learned new things about the meaning of Yilma’s songs that I have heard my whole life, but have never fully understood.
For this reason, I am very proud of Eneye, my friend, for doing something that has never been done before. We grew up together and seeing her succeed makes me happy. Eneye, I wish you the best and more success in life. You have paved the road for something great.

UOTY Conference Coming to Minnesota!
United Orthodox Tewahedo Youth (UOTY) was envisioned on 21 January 2014 over a conference call between five people. The major discussion topic of the day was how to consolidate experiences and exchange ideas on how to better serve the youth whom are perishing in floods from the Church. The call was initiated by brother Asmamaw Shelme of Seatle and Metesabia HaileMichael of Washington DC. Participants considered this call as a means to know each other and exchange ideas on how to serve. However, God had a greater plan for the group. An idea came up from one participant that emphasized the way to make a difference through connecting youth servants from around the Unites States. There was a fervently charged passion that each participant had shown throughout the meeting. A meeting that started with the general notion of just exchanging ideas ended up with an agreement to establish an annual conference to bring together and connect the youth. Thus, UOTY was established with this first historic meeting. The purpose of UOTY was specified as a means to connect the youth in the United States and possibly around the world; for the soul purpose of learning and spreading the word of God.
The first historic conference of UOTY was held on August 1st & 2nd 2015 at St. Louis Missouri. Even though only 50 people came for the conference, it did not slow down the electrified passion initiated over phone with five people. As the Holy book says “Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase.” (Job 8:7), the founders had good faith that it would grow in the coming years.
With the grace and will of our Almighty God, this year’s UOTY conference will be held right here at Re’se Adbarat Tserha Aryam Kidist Selassie Cathedral from June 10 to June 12 (Fri, Sat & Sun). About 160+ members of UOTY from around the United States and 150+ members from our own home State of Minnesota are expected to participate on this conference.
