The Faith Community / Public Health Nurse integrates the aspects of spirituality and health to enable congregational
and community members to achieve wholeness with and through their faith community. Work in
coordination with the clergy, the church’s parish council and health advisory committee of participating
congregations as well as other health organizations as determined. This is a part time position (0.5 FTE)
which requires working on Saturday and Sunday.
Job Description:
‐ Serve as a resource to the community by visiting, assessing health issues, educating and making
appropriate referrals.
‐ Serve as a health advocate for members to access necessary services.
‐ Promote an understanding of the relationship between lifestyle, attitude, faith and wellness.
‐ Maintain appropriate office hours for consultation, coordinate volunteer health professionals to serve the community, and coordinate community health education through community media.
‐ Work in coordination with clergy, administrative parish council, Health Advisory Committee and
volunteers to assist in meeting the goals of the faith community nurse program.
‐ Maintain records and statistical data necessary to document the function and activity of the faith
community nurse for the congregation and submit to funders.
‐ Attend workshops & quarterly meetings with the health advisory committee.
‐ Be available to provide services to the extended community if requested.
‐ Maintain personal professional liability insurance.
‐ Assume responsibility for continuing education and professional development to maintain licensure.
Job Requirements:
‐ Registered nurse currently licensed to practice in the State of Minnesota or
Ethiopian Medical School graduate who is in the process of being licensed in the US and who can commit for at least 2 years or
Ethiopian Nursing School graduate who is in the process of being licensed in the US who can commit for at least 2 years
‐ Will have completed Parents as Teachers Evidence Based Model training upon employment and the Faith Community Nurse training within the first year of employment /
contract
‐ Commitment to a holistic approach to health care
‐ Good communication skills
‐ Bilingual in Amharic and English preferred. Will consider non Amharic speakers who are passionate to serve the community. Competent to work in a diverse cultural community.
‐ Experience in promoting wellness and prevention of diseases
‐ Eligible to work in the United States
